TODAY:
-We finished discussing the SBJ articles (Nike 6.0 & Global Spectrum).
-We began a discussion of Chapter 3. We discussed sustainability, sustainable design, & the 3 spheres of sustainability. We will finish Chapter 3 next Tuesday.

HOMEWORK:
-Exam #1 will be next Thursday.

-Into The Wild: Chapters 2 & 3 due.
-Chapter 1 discussion questions due.
-We began a discussion of Chapter 1. Our discussion focused on leisure, casual vs serious leisure, work, personal care, recreation, & Neulinger's Paradigm. We will finish Chapter 1 next week.

HOMEWORK:
-Exam #1 on Tuesday.

STUDY GUIDE:
Chapter 1
-Define leisure, work, personal care, recreation and be able to give an example of an activity that would fall into each category.
-Explain the difference between casual & serious leisure.
-Explain all of Neulinger's Paradigm.

Chapter 8
-Define stress, stressor, distress, eustress.
-Define stress according to Selye.
-Explain the 3 stages of GAS.

Chapter 9
-State the 5 physiological benefits of humor & laughter.
-State the 4 psychological benefits of humor & laughter.
-State the 3 social & interpersonal benefits of humor & laughter.

Sport & Society
-State the 8 basic motives that drive people to consume sports.
-Explain BIRGing & CORFing.
-Explain what a deep fan is.
-Explain the 3 different baseball fan groups.
-State the 2 main benefits of sport.
-Explain :role learning" and "collective ritual."


-In addition to the above, there will also be questions based on the documentary 9 Innings From Ground Zero, the articles "Sports After 9/11," "What Makes Fans Tick," "What Makes Fans Crazy About Sports," and the Author's Note & Chapters 1-3 of Into The Wild.
