THURSDAY 9/10

TODAY:
-We finished wathcing the documentary, One Day in September.
-I collected notecards, both sets of Chapter 1 discussion questions, & the questions sheet for the documentary.
-We discussed the security issues & poor decision making from the 1972 Olympics. We also discussed the impact of 9/11 on sports/recreation facility management. The discussion was rather flat. I expect more out of a 300 level class.

HOMEWORK:
-Notecard.
-Review Chapter 1. We will discuss this chapter on Tuesday.
-Read Chapter 2 (this is the homework you will write about on your notecard).
-Complete Chapter 2 discussion questions (due Thursday):
1) Why is in-service training important & what should be the elements of an effective program?
2) Why is a rewards system essential to maintaining employee morale?
3) What are the procedures for terminations by the employee & the procedures for terminations by the organization?
4) What should the procedures be for an employee reporting inappropriate behavior (sexual harassment)?

TODAY:
-I collected the notecard & Chapter 9 discussion questions.
-We discussed why sports are so engrained in American culture. We also discussed how sports helped America heal after 9/11. We had a good discussion. Keep it up!

HOMEWORK:
-Notecard (from Chapter 1 reading).
-Create your Into The Wild blog. E-mail me the URL before Tuesday's class.
-Review Chapters 8 & 9. We will discuss them on Tuesday.
-Read Chapter 1.
-Complete the following Chapter 1 discussion questions (due Thursday):
1) Define "leisure."
2) Explain Neulinger's Paradigm.
3) Explain the Classical View of Leisure.
4) Explain the Antiutilitarian View of Leisure?
5) Explain the Social Instrument View of Leisure?
6) Explain the view of Leisure as a Symbol of Social Class?
