WEDNESDAY 10/12

IC101
TODAY:
-No new discussion questions due.
-You should have read Professor Ley's essay for class today.
-We continued our discussion of Unit 2.  Our discussion focused on the skills acquired through the socialization process, & the benefits of organized youth sports.

HOMEWORK:
-We are meeting in the classroom on Friday, not the cafeteria.  We will be attending a "Majors Day" session with the rest of the IC101 sections.

TODAY:
-No new discussion questions due.
-We began a discussion of Drucker Chapter 5.  Our discussion focused on the expectations of employees from management, Alcoa, & the difference between efficiency & effectiveness.

HOMEWORK:
-Rima & Alexandra will bring in current events for us to discuss.
-Read Drucker Chapter 7 & answer the following Discussion Questions:
1) What 3 characteristics did Drucker define as being unique to a CEO?
2) In the story box on page 248 Frances Hesselbein, CEO of The Girls Scouts, states that "leadership is a matter of how to be, not how to do." What does she mean?
3) How did Frank Weise, CEO of Cott Beverage, import his personality on the company when he took over? (Story box starting on page 251.)
4) How did Richard Block, president of AGI, have an impact on the actions of the company after touring the company's largest plant in Melrose Park, Illinois? (Story box on page 256.)
5) What does Drucker mean by, "Each of us is a CEO?"

4) Explain the factors that restrict the freedom of women with respect to leisure.

7) Explain the 2 different methods of calculating leisure:
A) Leisure as memorable time.
B) Leisure as time left over.
