8 years later the potential for terrorism is still an issue in sports. Read this.
TODAY:
-We discussed Chapter 3.
-We did a group brainstorming exercise.

HOMEWORK:
-No notecard.
-Quiz #1: Chapters 1-3, Documentary, 9/11 security article, 2 SBJ articles.

STUDY GUIDE:
Chapter 1
-3 qualities leaders need to possess to get people to follow them.
-Be able to explain the 8 key leadership qualities.
-Be able to explain the Managerial Grid Model & its 5 leadership styles.

Chapter 2
-Types of employees (2 classifications, 4 special types, 3 categories).
-3 parts to a job description.
-Explain what in-service training is & what are the 4 main elements.
-Examples of intrinsic & extrinsic motivating factors.
-Maslow's Hierarchy as it relates to managers.
-Procedures for termination by employee & by organization.
-Procedure for employees reporting sexual harassment.

Chapter 3
-4 rules to brainstorming.
-Explain the 8 categories of needs assessment information.
-Difference between standing plan & single-use plan.

In addition to the above, have an understanding of what we discussed from the documentary, 9/11 security article, & the 2 SBJ articles that were assigned for reading.

TODAY:
-Notecard due.
-Chapter 2 discussion questions due.
-Into The Wild Chapters 2 & 3.
-We finished our discussion of Chapter 2. Our discussion focussed on the leisure explosion in the 20th century; the decline of lesiure since 1980; real leisure vs perceived leisure; passive leisure; & future trends in free time.

HOMEWORK:
-Notecard.
-First blog post is due Thursday October 1.
-Read Chapter 3.
-Chapter 3 discussion questions:
1) What are the benefits for studying leisure history?
2) What are some factors that have influenced the development of the recreation movement in the 20th century? How did these factors influence the rec. movement?
3) What are some factors that will influence the development of the recreation movement in the 21st century? How will these factors influence teh rec. movement?
