FRIDAY 9/9

TODAY:
-You took Quiz #1. If you were absent, you need to contact me prior to class on Monday to schedule a make-up.
-There were no new discussion questions due today.
-We continued our discussion of Drucker Chapter 1. We reviewed the definition of management & its 6 functions, and then had a discussion about how/why management in the US has evolved.
-We will discuss the Silent Revolution from Chapter 1 on Monday.

HOMEWORK:
-Whether you like him or not he is your President, and America is a democracy, so you should pay attention when he talks. The only way you can have a say is to keep yourself informed. Here is a good article that summarizes what Obama spoke to Congress about last night.

-Joe Bevilacqua will have a current event for us to discuss on Monday.
-We will finish Drucker Chapter 1 on Monday by discussing the Silent Revolution. We will start Drucker Chapter 2 on Wednesday. I will assign discussion questions for Chapter 2 on Monday. In light of the 10 year anniversary of 9/11, I would like for you to read Chapter 17 of The World is Flat entitled, "11/9 versus 9/11." Read pages 607-619 and answer the following Discussion Questions:
1) What event took place on November 9, 1989?
2) What did the Berlin Wall symbolize?
3) What did the dismantling of the Berlin Wall symbolize?
4) Within al-Qaeda, what was the terrorist plot referred to as?
5) What does Friedman mean when he says, "bin Laden proved to be a very deft supply chain manager?"
6) Why does Friedman tell the story of Candace Lee Williams?
6) What 3 airlines did Favid Neeleman start or play an important role in shaping?

-We watched the ESPN SportsCentury clip & discussed the 8 basic motives that drive us to consume sports. We finished by discussing the concepts of BIRGing & CORFing.

HOMEWORK:
-Hayley Brown will bring in a current event for us to discuss.
-We will finish discussing the 2 sports & fans articles on Monday and then watch the documentary, 9 Innings From Ground Zero. To get you ready for that documentary I am assigning an article for you to read (see below). After we finish watching & discussing the documentary & article we will begin discussing textbook Chapters 8 & 9. I will assign discussion questions for those chapters on Monday.
-Read the following article: The Games Go On.
-Answer the following discussion questions based on the article.
