Today: We began discussing Chapter 10 which deals with recreation and social development. Our discussion focused on:
-Social trends contributing to shutting people off from interacting with one another.
-Turning off the plug-in drug: Reasons why tv is negatively contributing to the socialization process.
Homework:
-We will finish our Chapter 1o discussion on Thursday and talk about the 3 types of friendships & the pros/cons of competitive sports for kids.
-We will also discuss select topics from Chapter 11 (textbook) as well as Chapters 11 & 12 from Into The Wild
-Into The Wild Chapters 11 & 12.
-Quiz.
-Deadline for email approval for industry interview is 11/8.

Today: We started discussing Chapter 9 which focuses on promotions & customer retention as the keys to financial stability for a sports organization. Our class discussion focused on the following topics:
-Promotions is the vehicle that carries the message, positions products, & develops appropriate image.
-Advertising, Personal Selling, Publicity, & Sales Promotion are the key marketing activities within promotions.
-Advertising & Personal Selling are the most commonly used promotion tools.
-Customer retention is the key to financial stability (6 times as much to attract new customer than keep existing customer & 80% of sales comes from 20% of customers).
Homework:
-We will finish the Chapter 9 discussion on Thursday and focus on:
-5 steps to effective personal selling, common types of advertising, knowing the customer, & ranking customers.
-Quiz
